About the Tribal Area
In Alaska, Native Village of Tanacross serves as the core village for this alaska native village. FCC BDC records show 3 fixed providers and 3 mobile providers across roughly 75 service locations, with current availability of 82.4% at 25/3 Mbps, 8.1% at 100/20, and 8.1% at 1000/100.
Tribal Area Description
Located in Alaska, Tanacross is a Alaska Native Village with ANVSA lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
The official language of Tanacross is Dihtaad Xt’een Aandeg’. Tanacross is located on the south bank of the Tanana River, 12 miles northwest of Tok, at milepost 1324 of the Alaska Highway. The name was eventually shortened to Tanacross. Thousands of troops were deployed through Tanacross airfield during the war. Tanacross is a traditional Athabascan village with a subsistence lifestyle. In 1972, due to water contamination, the village relocated from the north bank of the Tanana River to the south bank. In the winter, cold air settles in the valley and ice fog and smoke are common. The average low during January is -22 °F; the average high during July is 65 °F. Extreme temperatures have been measured from -75 to 90 °F. Residents are Tanah (or Tinneh) Athabascan Indians.
