About the Tribal Area
Mississippi Choctaw Reservation is a reservation in Mississippi associated with this federally recognized tribe, and it spans about 47 square miles. The latest FCC BDC filing shows 15 fixed providers and 6 mobile providers across roughly 131 service locations, with current availability of 96.2% at 25/3 Mbps, 83.7% at 100/20, and 80.8% at 1000/100.
Tribal Area Description
Mississippi Choctaw is a federally recognized tribe in Mississippi with tribal lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
The Choctaw Tribal Government departments, programs, and offices are here to serve our Chahta people. Our Visitors section offers much more information about the Mississippi Choctaw. It is a sovereign nation with more than 11,000 Tribal members, and more than 35,000 acres of fee and trust lands in Mississippi and Tennessee. The Tribe is the only federally recognized Native American tribe in the State. Message from Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben, the youngest Chief to be elected and currently serving his second term. The Choctaw have lived for centuries in the Southeastern United States, largely in the area that was to become the modern-day state of Mississippi. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians are the descendants of those who refused to leave their homeland during the Trail of Tears.
