About the Tribal Area
Spans about 80 square miles of land plus roughly 1.9 square miles of water in New Mexico, Pueblo de Cochiti serves as the core pueblo for this federally recognized tribe. Tribal Area Description
Located in New Mexico, Cochiti is a federally recognized tribe with pueblo lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
Originally known in the Keresan language as “ko-tyīt'” the Pueblo de Cochiti has been listed on the National Register of Historical Places since 1974 and 1973 respectively. New Mexico’s northernmost Keresan-speaking pueblo falls with the boundaries of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is located approximately 35 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico just west of the mighty Rio Grande on 53,779 acres of reservation land. Pueblo cultures and the Keresan people have occupied the region for thousands of years.
